Another Week With Shelby

So another week is behind us.  For the most part this past week was nothing out of the ordinary.  I went to class, did my homework, went to work, and tried to make the most of whatever free time I had left.  I must say that I am really enjoying school. I realize that that may sound super dorky but I am really having a good time.  I love my major, I love the instructors, and I love the students.  The individuals I have met during these past weeks are some of the most interesting, entertaining people I have ever met in one place.  A lot of the freshmen have become a weird little family.  The second years are like our older siblings that make fun of us and boss us around, but in the end they give us really useful advice and look out for us.
The courses and instructors only add to this amazing experience.  In Comm140 we are really diving into more editing.  I love editing. I am now in the radio side of Comm120 and although it is fun and interesting, I miss the studio.  Thankfully, Reel Review gives me an excuse to get behind the camera and receive more experience with being a TD.
That is all I have for now, but I will be back.

On The Road Again

This week I am responding to another article from our friend Joe Klein.  This brief article left me quite pessimistic about the state of America’s government and economy. It is no wonder that the economic state of this country is suffering, people are just walking away from their mortgages.  I am not the best when it comes to understanding banking and mortgages, but I do know that the increasing number of foreclosures will only do the economy further harm.
I always find it interesting how people react to the country’s current president.  A candidate spends months making arguments and promises to persuade enough of the country to vote on their behalf.  That candidate wins the election and, after a short time, those once satisfied voters turn on them.  I personally do not vote, nor do I plan to in the future, so as a politically neutral observer I am amused at this country’s reaction to President Obama.  The article brings out that those who were once celebrating on national television after Obama’s election are now frustrated with the President and his decisions.  As a young woman on my way into the real world, I worry about what this country will turn into.  Will there even be jobs by the time my classmates and I graduate?  I must say that things are not looking too good.

NYC!!!!

I thought that instead of telling you about my week I would show you.  So enjoy this video of crazy media club kids set loose in NYC.

Another Video Blog!!! Yay!!!

Wedding Fun

My friend Katie and I at her wedding in South Carolina

Joe Klein: Road Trip. My diagonal cross-country drive begins, in search of the news beyond the sound bites.

Ok I’m not going to pretend to understand politics in this blog entry, I’m just going to recap the article I read.  The article starts out by talking about candidate Bryan Lentz who is running for congress.  The article goes on to discuss journalist Joe Klein’s cross-country trip to find out what people really know about the problems this country is facing.
I enjoyed the tone Joe Klein used in this article.  He did not put himself above the general public and he did not make himself out to be more educated.  The journalist stated that he is traveling across the United States to find out for himself what the people know.  He is not about to take the word of the media as his own.  I can appreciate that philosophy because I have never been one to completely believe the media.  People today are never given the complete picture when it comes to the news.

Quick Summary Of My Week

Another week down.  The highlight of this past week would be that I was picked to go on the trip to New York City with the Media Club.  I am really really really looking forward to this trip.  I have only been to NYC once and it was only for a day.  I went with my honors art class my senior year in high school.  In the future I will definitely be making more trips to the city in order to see more Broadway shows.
So what else happened this past week?  I directed and then performed a music video for Comm120.  That was….interesting.  I’m not going to lie to you, I thoroughly enjoyed dancing around to Paramore in front of the class.  I am a little sad that the project is over because it was super funny to watch my class mates make fools of themselves on camera.  Who wouldn’t enjoy that?
I really cannot believe that it is October already.  These past weeks in classes have been an amazing experience.  There is a really good chance that my friends and family are quite sick of hearing me talk about school.  I take advantage of any opportunity to tell my friends about what I am doing in school everyday.
That’s it for this week. Thanks for reading.
